Welcome to the party pal!
- John McClane (Bruce Willis - Die Hard)

A phrase I say when greeting websites.  I like to treat socially webly sites in the same way as Hans Gruber.

They are sneaky Germans who want to get rich by blowing up Nakatomi Plaza.

deviantART is a website.  I am a man.  When man and website meet one needs to take a byte out of the other.

I have seven things.  Two of which are good things.  1 thing stopped Kurt Russell.

Chains of the Overalls

Along with the screaming from some faraway person, lights outside of M's tenement building flickered as the power station's coal supply temporarily stalled.  The smell of rotting food rose from overflowing rubbish bins at the base of the steps to the entrance and took hold of his nose, passing over his bristly mustache.

M stared through the frosted glass at the rapidly dimming sun.  The snow was already falling and settling on the badly parked and dented cars.  By morning they'd be nothing but white bumps on a fresh new canvas.  He liked that.

M was a short man.  He was doughy and determined with big saggy bags under glistening eyes.

The door to his room opened behind him.  His younger brother, L, stood in the doorway holding an opened bottle of vodka.  L looked a lot like his brother, but was taller and had a much higher pitched voice.

"M? You OK?" he asked, taking a swig from the equally frosted bottle.

"No L, no.  I am not," said M, whispering and watching his breath fog in the air.

"So times are a little tough right now," L stood beside his brother and held out the bottle for him.  "Business will pick up.  It's winter.  Pipes don't like the winter."

M sighed and feebly pushed the bottle away with an outstretched finger.

"You don't get it, L.  It's not about the pipes."

"I know, brother," said L, placing his empty hand on M's shoulder.  "But its not doing you any favours to keep thinking about her."

M rose to his feet and pushed L backward gently.  He paced aimlessly as L glanced at the circles he was making around the room.

"L I need to do something.  Something different.  I need to get out of here.  I wish I could just sink into some bed and when I come to I'm just somewhere else."

L slumped down on the floor, taking over M's spot by the window.  He laughed and shook his head, taking another long swig of vodka.

"Everyone wants to warp to some faraway land, M."

"Yeah but I feel it.  I feel it every day.  This is not my future, L.  I don't belong here.  I shouldn't be here."

"Then tell me, brother, where is this other land?  This kingdom of yours?"

"Don't you think I'd be there if I knew?" M scoffed grumpily.  He walked out of the bedroom and towards their humming fridge.  Flies lazily hung around the small plastic tub sitting on the counter brimming with waste.  Empty vodka bottles of differing size sat in a row on the kitchen counter like an alcoholic skyline and the air continued to fog with the breath of M.

"This place..." he trailed off and sighed as a flash of a smile entered his thoughts.  She wouldn't leave them.  Every day he thought about her and what she was doing.  Just a few short weeks ago he hadn't needed to wonder.  Whatever she was doing, he'd been doing it too.  They'd been enjoying life together.  They'd gone shopping together.  They'd eaten in the new corner restaurant together.  They'd laughed as the owner frantically chased out small spiky animals from the kitchen together.

Then everything had changed.  She'd left to chase a dream he'd never been a part of.  He was here and she was wherever she was.  He wasn't alone, he was without her.  When he went shopping he went shopping without her.  When he ate his dinner, he ate his dinner without her.

"Why didn't you follow her?  Why did you call it a pipe dream?" he scolded himself.  "She was your princess.  She could have been your queen."  He hunched his shoulders and rested his head against the door of the refrigerator, his forehead covering up a photo of the pair of them.  He felt a hand on his shoulder and turned to see L.

"It will get better," L promised.

 "How do you know that?"

"Trust me," L replied, pulling his brother towards him and giving him a hug.  "Lets get out of this place.  Lets go somewhere, try and find your better world.  Lets leave this place and never look back."

"We can't do that L.  The business..."

"The business can go to hell!  We can do our trade anywhere.  The world will always need a plumber somewhere.  Right now, I want my brother to be happy.  Isn't that more important?"

 M smiled painfully.

"So come on then, M.  Where do we go?  Which direction do you want to travel?"

"I'm fed up of all this snow.  Somewhere warm.  Somewhere with deserts and lizards."

 "I thought you hated reptiles?"

 "Only the really big ones."
